Well the start of the new school year is not the only exciting thing to happen today… today is also Baby Myles’ birthday! And it is a big one—he is six months old today!
I tried my very best to get some good pictures of him today, but he is teething and just wouldn’t cooperate! So although he isn’t very smiley, he is still pretty cute!

Baby Myles is still just the sweetest little guy. He is so, so calm and chill. He is basically fine with whatever comes his way! He is just such a good little guy!

We still refer to him as “Baby” or “Baby Myles” and only occasionally call him “Myles.” If you are Austin, you also occasionally call him “Max.” : ) Who knows if the poor guy actually knows what his name is because we usually don’t use it!

He still has a flat head and doesn’t like tummy time. A few times he has straightened his arms completely up while he is on his tummy, so we know he is strong-- he just usually refuses to stay on his tummy! He will play for a little bit and then it’s like he remembers he hates his tummy and he will face plant and refuse to lift himself back up and cry until you flip him over! This guy HATES being on his tummy! At our last visit, the doctor said that he is just a lazy guy (I call it “chill”) and he is too lazy to lift himself up. I think he just hates tummy time!

He does, however, love to stand! He isn’t pulling himself up on his own, but we can stand him next to things and he will stand there on his own for quite a while. He has pretty good balance and can even stand up while only holding on with one hand! Sometimes he forgets and lets go with both hands and starts to topple over. This freaks the big kids out so I sometimes have to send them to their room while he is practicing standing so they stop crying, “He will fall and break his head open!” Haha

He reaches for everything and has a great grip. Sometimes it is a big struggle to get him to let go (whether it be my hair or dinner or whatever it is he is trying to grab!)!

He has also got to be very good at sitting up on his own. Most of the time now if he leans over and plays with his toes, he can then sit back up straight on his own with no problems. Sometimes he topples over, but for the most part he can sit up as long as he wants to!

Myles is usually content wherever we put him. He will sit in his swing and play with his toys, or stand in his exersaucer, or sit in his Bumbo with a tray on it and play with toys, or lay on the floor and keep himself occupied with his fingers or blanket… He doesn’t really care! He will play happily for about 10 minutes or longer no problem. Sometimes he will even play contently for 30 or 40 minutes!

Myles loves, loves, loves Makenna. She is truly his favorite person. She just has to look at him and he can’t stop smiling! He loves it when she sings to him or talks to him, and every day she will play with him for hours—sometimes she is the teacher and he is the student, or he is the baby and she is the mommy, or she even just sits and talks to him or reads to him. If he is grouchy, I call for Makenna to come and cheer him up. He REALLY loves his Makenna!

I’m not going to lie, Myles also has a special place in his heart for his mommy. I am probably a close runner up to Makenna in his favorites. : ) He is also starting to really love Daddy. I told him just yesterday that he is starting to be like those big kids—they start off loving their mama but they soon leave her behind when they notice how fun Dad is! : D He has started watching Austin whenever Austin is in the room. They are becoming little buds! He is still pretty wary of Max. He likes to watch Max or grab Max’s glasses, but he still doesn’t really like Max to get too close (mostly because Max gets right up in his face or is super loud). I’m sure that will change as he gets older!

Myles still nurses really frequently. He is currently eating about every 3 hours, though if we are out and about and he is kept occupied he will go 4 or even 5 hours. He usually eats about 5 minutes on each side. He still will not take a bottle or pacifier.

He is also now eating solids three times a day. Since we bought him a high chair, he really enjoys his solids! He will have baby oatmeal in the morning, a fruit at lunch, and a vegetable at dinner. He usually eats 3/4 to an entire container of baby food at a time.

Myles still insists on being swaddled up to sleep. If we don’t swaddle him or if he gets free of his swaddle, he usually won’t sleep! The doctor said last visit that he will grow out of that, but I guess we shall see!

Myles usually goes to bed at around 8. Then he gets up around 2 times (sometimes 3) to nurse during the night. He will usually have a 5 or 6 hour sleeping stretch and then go 3 or 4 hours. When he wakes up at night he eats and then goes right back to sleep. I am usually only up with him about 20 minutes at a time. His wake up times just depend. Sometimes he will get up for the day at around 7:30 and sometimes he doesn’t get up until after 9! I’m really not sure WHY his times fluctuate so much, but I’m hoping now that school is starting it will help regulate him a little more.

Most days Myles takes three naps during the day. He usually does a hour and a half to two hour nap in the morning and then another one after lunch. Then he takes an early evening nap that is only about a hour long. This can change if we aren’t home (he rarely sleeps when we aren’t home and will sometimes go 7 or 8 hours awake if we are away from his bed!) or if he is teething or extra tired, but that is his most “usual usual.”

Myles has one little tooth in and we just noticed today that he is working on another. Teething seems to make him want to nurse more and sleep less and it does make him whiney. However, he is still a GOOD baby even while teething!

Now that he is getting teeth in he loves to rub his lips or tongue over them. It’s pretty cute, but the constant licking of his lips is making his little face break out!

Myles STILL is not rolling over! He has a doctor’s appointment in two weeks and I am really worried about what they are going to say! When he is on his back he rolls over onto his side, but he stops himself before he turns all the way over. Austin says he does it on purpose because he doesn’t want to be on his tummy so why flip over? But it really worries me because this is a milestone that should have already been met! I know he is strong, so why doesn’t he roll over?!? I actually work with him some days and show him how to flip over and manually flip him over, but he will not do it on his own! I wonder if it is just because he is so content that he doesn’t see a need to turn over? I don’t know, but it will worry me until a doctor tells me it is fine! : )

He will, however, scoot. He can push himself across the floor and he usually twists and scoots himself around until he is facing whichever way he wants to go.

Myles loves his blankets SO much. They were originally just for swaddling, but now he likes to hold them and play with them all the time and they also seem to comfort him. Good thing we have four identical blankets so we can switch them out and wash them! : )

He hasn’t been to his 6 month check up yet so I don’t have his height and weight, but he is currently wearing a 9 months clothes. Those seem to fit pretty perfectly, so I’m sure he will move up to 12 months fairly soon!

And that’s our baby Myles at 6 months! He is good and sweet. He loves music and will bounce up and down to any music or rhythm. If he is on his tummy or back it looks like he is doing the worm when he hears music. : ) He loves his family and loves when we talk to him or sing to him. He entertains himself fairly well. He loves to play with toys. He is an okay sleeper and a good eater. And he is just such a sweet heart! We still, even after 6 months, cannot get enough of this guy!!! Happy birthday, baby boy! We love you!!!

(And a cute baby feet picture for you, Becca!)
