Trip to Ohio

Austin’s brother is in the Army and just recently had his first move from Oklahoma to New York. Because he and his family would be passing SO CLOSE on their move, we decided to drive down to Toledo, Ohio (less than two hours away) and meet them for dinner while they drove through.

We left on a Friday night fairly late because of different issues. The biggest one was our car problem. We have the Explorer which has a broken turn signal and then the little car that shakes like crazy when you drive it. So which car do you take on a road trip? We ended up taking the Explorer and I was very upset with that (don’t have a turn signal while you drive on the freeway at high speeds???) and had a hissy fit about it, but it ended up being fine and a safe trip. But all that drama (plus Austin not getting home from work until late) caused us to get on the road late!

The car ride went fine. We sang with the Frozen soundtrack the whole way and stopped for a late dinner and got to the hotel after 10 pm. It was late and we were all tired so we went straight to bed!

On Saturday the big kiddos woke Mom up bright and early (and let Dad sleep! What is up with that???). I didn’t want them to wake up the baby so they cuddled in bed and played on the ipad for a while.

“Mom! The camera is too bright!”

Don’t wake the sleeping baby!

Myles slept great! I nursed him and he went right to sleep, and then he woke up once during the night, nursed, and went back to sleep until around 7 am.

After everyone got up we went down for breakfast. I thought Miss Makenna looked like a mini-teenager in her pjs, boots, and messy bun!

After breakfast we went down to the pool to swim. I think the kids were most excited about this!

IMG_20140222_123859

Myles was SUPER nervous about being in the pool at first and just CLUNG to me. But soon he warmed up and he LOVED it!

After swimming we showered and got ready for the day and then we packed up and checked out of the hotel. We went to a local mall for lunch in the food court (yay Chik Fil A!) and walking around the mall.

Next we went to The Imagination Station, which is a children’s science museum.Oh my lanta the line to get in was SO long! We stood in line for almost a hour JUST TO GET IN! It was really crowded but totally worth it because it was a really fun place to be! They had a little kid section for kids kindergarten aged and younger and that is where we spent the majority of our time. The kids had so much fun they didn’t want to leave and go look at anything else!

Their favorite part was the little doctor’s office/hospital, imagine that! : D

There was a room specifically for babies that Myles had a lot of fun in.

But by far, Myles FAVORITE part was the water tables! He loved, loved, loved that and stayed in that section for over an hour!

They also had a water section that the older kids enjoyed playing in:

There was a hurricane simulator with winds at 95 mph that the big kids went in. Max had to take off his glasses because the winds were so strong! But even with that strong wind, Makenna’s hair didn’t move! Haha looks like we have a really good hairspray! : D

I was taking a picture of Makenna and Max jumped right in the background. Perfect photobomb! : )

IMG_20140223_203159

We had such a great time at the museum!

20140222_145900

We stayed for over four hours and didn’t leave until the museum closed, but when we left the kids STILL complained that we didn’t stay long enough! It was THAT fun!

That Myles had been awake the whole day without a nap. Poor little guy! When we left the museum he was so exhausted but still didn’t sleep!

The museum closed at 5 but Austin’s brother still hadn’t reached us yet, so we went to Barnes and Noble to look around and play (the kids love playing at their Lego table). Then we drove across town to the Olive Garden where we were supposed to be meeting them for dinner. I went in to get our name on the list but they told us the wait would be TWO HOURS! Are you kidding me??? Well, by this point Austin’s brother and his family had arrived with their moving truck but we decided two hours was too long to wait. We had hungry kids plus we both still had to drive a few more hours that night. So we decided on another restaurant and drove across town to eat and the wait time there was a hour and a half! Finally we decided we would just eat at Quizno’s—yummy food but no wait time! Unfortunately the moving truck got stuck in some ice and Austin and Cody couldn’t get it pushed out. Luckily a Navy guy in a big truck pulled up and pulled the moving truck out of the ice—but by then it was so late and we could have just eaten at Cody’s choice to begin with! Oh well, you live and learn and we headed to Quizno’s!

Brothers:

Makenna and Max loved, loved, loved playing with cousin Dalton!

IMG_20140223_202041

Myles had FINALLY gone to sleep but woke up after we got to Quizno’s. He was a little bully and kept stealing things from Dalton!

IMG_20140223_202337

There was only one guy working at Quizno’s and he was SO SO SO SLOW so it was like 9 pm before we finally got to eat dinner so we didn’t get to stay and socialize as long as we would like. But it was still a nice dinner (I love Quizno’s, not gonna lie) and we really liked getting to visit with them a little while on their move!

Eventually we had to head back home. We got home at like 11 or so and put the kids to bed and finally got to bed ourselves. It was such a long day but the kids said it was the best day of their lives—it was a great trip!

Valentine’s Day

Our Valentine’s Day festivities started a few days early this year. Valentine’s Day was on a Friday, but we had a “Preschool Mom” Valentine’s Day party on Wednesday. Everyone came during our normal preschool time, but we had brunch together instead of school. We had a lot of fun talking and socializing (and eating!) and the preschool kids had fun playing and watching a movie together.

On Valentine’s Day, we woke up to a fun surprise from Daddy:

The kids’ favorite cereal, a candy, and a book for Makenna and Max and beautiful roses for Mommy! Daddy did good! : )

After breakfast we got Miss Makenna dressed with some festive flair—a heart shaped hair do and a new Valentine’s Day outfit from Grandmom.

My mom made Makenna’s Valentine’s she brought to share with her friends. She made heart shaped lollipop covers and monogrammed each kids’ name on them! She also made some for my three children:

We sent Makenna off to school, and soon the preschool kids arrived for our Valentine’s Day party. For our party, I planned a lot of crafts and some Valentine’s themed learning activities for us. We also exchanged Valentine’s and ate some junk food. : D

Max gave this Valentine to the lone girl in our preschool (my mom made the lips):

And this was his Valentine for the boys (my mom made the mustache):

After school I took some pictures of Max with his things from the party.

Enjoying his Valentine’s from his friends:

With his heart flowers we made (they used stampers to decorate the hearts and then attached pipe cleaners to make flowers. Then they wrote on the flowers the names of people that they loved and were thankful for):

Foam hearts he decorated:

The kids all really seemed to enjoy the crafty preschool party!

After lunch a friend came over to watch the boys, and I went off to Makenna’s school for her Valentine’s Day party. I am the room Mom so I planned and carried out the party, so I didn’t have time to take pictures during the actual thing. Instead I took pictures of the examples of everything I made before the party. : D

My theme was “BEE my Valentine” so we did everything with little Valentine’s Bees.

Our first station we made “BEE Mine” bumble bees.

Makenna with her bee craft:

Our next station was also a craft. In this station the kids made antennae headbands to wear. Max is modeling my sample. : )

IMG_20140213_152420

The third station was the crowd pleaser—the kids played “Pollen Pong.” The object of the game is to bounce the bee (a balloon) back and forth from flower to flower (paddles made with paper plates) without letting the bee hit the floor. All of the kindergartners LOVED this game and it was a HUGE hit! Also during this station time the kids played “Pin the Bee on the Hive” with their own individual bees I made them. They were excited to get to keep their bees after the game, which I thought was cute because they were just paper bees with their names on them, haha.

IMG_20140213_222438

In the last station we played games with candy conversation hearts and we called it “Hive Assembly.” The kids used chopsticks to move the hearts around and then stacked them as high as they could without them falling over. Then they got to eat the hearts. : D

After the stations we had an ice cream party—send them home with a sugar high!

It was a fun party, but I’m glad it was my last party for the year! : )

That evening Makenna had dance and then we went for a late dinner to Steak and Shake. It was nice to enjoy ZERO wait time like all the other restaurants in town PLUS we got a milkshake afterwards. Sounds good to me!

I also received another Valentine’s Day gift! Austin had told me he was expecting a package, so when one arrived I didn’t think anything about it. Well then after he got home he told me I could open the box for him—and this is what I found:

IMG_20140214_172908

I was so impressed with how thoughtful he was! Not only did he surprise me with the gorgeous necklace, but that note! Talk about romantic! Swoon!

It ended up being a fantastic Valentine’s Day!
