Austin’s brother is in the Army and just recently had his first move from Oklahoma to New York. Because he and his family would be passing SO CLOSE on their move, we decided to drive down to Toledo, Ohio (less than two hours away) and meet them for dinner while they drove through.
We left on a Friday night fairly late because of different issues. The biggest one was our car problem. We have the Explorer which has a broken turn signal and then the little car that shakes like crazy when you drive it. So which car do you take on a road trip? We ended up taking the Explorer and I was very upset with that (don’t have a turn signal while you drive on the freeway at high speeds???) and had a hissy fit about it, but it ended up being fine and a safe trip. But all that drama (plus Austin not getting home from work until late) caused us to get on the road late!
The car ride went fine. We sang with the Frozen soundtrack the whole way and stopped for a late dinner and got to the hotel after 10 pm. It was late and we were all tired so we went straight to bed!
On Saturday the big kiddos woke Mom up bright and early (and let Dad sleep! What is up with that???). I didn’t want them to wake up the baby so they cuddled in bed and played on the ipad for a while.
“Mom! The camera is too bright!”
Don’t wake the sleeping baby!
Myles slept great! I nursed him and he went right to sleep, and then he woke up once during the night, nursed, and went back to sleep until around 7 am.
After everyone got up we went down for breakfast. I thought Miss Makenna looked like a mini-teenager in her pjs, boots, and messy bun!
After breakfast we went down to the pool to swim. I think the kids were most excited about this!
Myles was SUPER nervous about being in the pool at first and just CLUNG to me. But soon he warmed up and he LOVED it!
After swimming we showered and got ready for the day and then we packed up and checked out of the hotel. We went to a local mall for lunch in the food court (yay Chik Fil A!) and walking around the mall.
Next we went to The Imagination Station, which is a children’s science museum.Oh my lanta the line to get in was SO long! We stood in line for almost a hour JUST TO GET IN! It was really crowded but totally worth it because it was a really fun place to be! They had a little kid section for kids kindergarten aged and younger and that is where we spent the majority of our time. The kids had so much fun they didn’t want to leave and go look at anything else!
Giant piano:
Little firefighters:
Their favorite part was the little doctor’s office/hospital, imagine that! : D
There was a room specifically for babies that Myles had a lot of fun in.
Looking at Daddy through the glass wall:
But by far, Myles FAVORITE part was the water tables! He loved, loved, loved that and stayed in that section for over an hour!
They also had a water section that the older kids enjoyed playing in:
There was a hurricane simulator with winds at 95 mph that the big kids went in. Max had to take off his glasses because the winds were so strong! But even with that strong wind, Makenna’s hair didn’t move! Haha looks like we have a really good hairspray! : D
I was taking a picture of Makenna and Max jumped right in the background. Perfect photobomb! : )
We had such a great time at the museum!
We stayed for over four hours and didn’t leave until the museum closed, but when we left the kids STILL complained that we didn’t stay long enough! It was THAT fun!
That Myles had been awake the whole day without a nap. Poor little guy! When we left the museum he was so exhausted but still didn’t sleep!
The museum closed at 5 but Austin’s brother still hadn’t reached us yet, so we went to Barnes and Noble to look around and play (the kids love playing at their Lego table). Then we drove across town to the Olive Garden where we were supposed to be meeting them for dinner. I went in to get our name on the list but they told us the wait would be TWO HOURS! Are you kidding me??? Well, by this point Austin’s brother and his family had arrived with their moving truck but we decided two hours was too long to wait. We had hungry kids plus we both still had to drive a few more hours that night. So we decided on another restaurant and drove across town to eat and the wait time there was a hour and a half! Finally we decided we would just eat at Quizno’s—yummy food but no wait time! Unfortunately the moving truck got stuck in some ice and Austin and Cody couldn’t get it pushed out. Luckily a Navy guy in a big truck pulled up and pulled the moving truck out of the ice—but by then it was so late and we could have just eaten at Cody’s choice to begin with! Oh well, you live and learn and we headed to Quizno’s!
Brothers:
Makenna and Max loved, loved, loved playing with cousin Dalton!
Myles had FINALLY gone to sleep but woke up after we got to Quizno’s. He was a little bully and kept stealing things from Dalton!
There was only one guy working at Quizno’s and he was SO SO SO SLOW so it was like 9 pm before we finally got to eat dinner so we didn’t get to stay and socialize as long as we would like. But it was still a nice dinner (I love Quizno’s, not gonna lie) and we really liked getting to visit with them a little while on their move!
Eventually we had to head back home. We got home at like 11 or so and put the kids to bed and finally got to bed ourselves. It was such a long day but the kids said it was the best day of their lives—it was a great trip!
