Our New House in Michigan

I had a friend mention that she wanted me to blog about our new house today… so here it is! Keep in mind, we did just move in THREE DAYS ago! So things aren’t necessarily completely clean, unpacked, or organized yet! But in any case, here it is:

The outside of the house. I love how green and neat our yard looks! The neighborhood is just like this—all the houses are a bit older, but well-maintained and it is very quiet!  The quiet, nice neighborhood is definitely my favorite thing about Michigan so far!

When you first walk in our house through the front door, you walk into a living room.  Eventually, I would like to buy more bookshelves and make that whole wall a wall of bookshelves and this be a sort of “library.”  But for now and lack of room (and money!), we just have most of our books in boxes in the basement!

As you can see from that last picture, off the living room is a hallway or you can go straight into the kitchen/dining area.

This house has NO cabinet space! So we had to buy that little cupboard to use as our pantry. Yet we STILL do not have enough room! Grr!

The kitchen and dining area are really old and creaky.  But I guess it is just for a year, right?

Off of the kitchen is the family room.  We are using half of it for an office because we no longer have a separate office (and it is also a mess—not completely done unpacking the office stuff!).

Right off the family room are sliding doors that lead out to the deck and backyard.  I love the deck! It’s nice and big and would be great if we had some outdoor furniture! ; )

Because the backyard is mostly trees and shaded, grass doesn’t grow too well back there.  It will be fine—except for when it rains! The kids can’t play out there very much now because it’s still a bit damp.  But as soon as it dries we will get the swing set out there.  It will be fun to let the kids play while I sit on the deck with a book!

Okay, backing back up to the hallway.  The first room off the hallway is a playroom for the kids.  They have actually been playing really well in their own little “toy” room!  We also put the rocking chair in there so me or Austin could sit in there with them.

Past the hallway is the master bedroom (VERY tiny!).  It’s not totally unpacked yet either:

Then the bathroom (there is a half bathroom next to the kitchen/garage/basement, but we probably won’t use it much):

And finally the kids’ room.  Because we wanted to have a playroom, we decided to have the kids share a bedroom.  We will only be here a year and the kids currently share the same bedtime and naptime, so hopefully that will work out!  This will probably be the only time they would share a room because they are a boy and girl, but they are so young right now it doesn’t matter!

Makenna’s side (plus a cute little Max in the picture!):

Max’s side (this weekend we are going to Alabama for my little brother’s baptism, and we are going to pick up a racecar bed for Max while we are there!):

I didn’t take a picture of the basement but it is HUGE!!! But it is also concrete floors and cold with a lot of pipes and stuff the kids could get into.  So we are just using that for storage, laundry, and for my craft “room.”

So there you are! There is a lot from our old house that I really miss (more room, better layout, built in bookshelves and desk, huge backyard, etc), but this should work out fine for the year!

Yay!! I am jealous of the green grass to play on and the huge green trees! The house looks good, not nearly as old as the picture you had painted for me. :) We miss you guys! Thanks for the post!
