This winter has been long and snowy and cold. I was reading the other day that we have had over 100 days of temperatures (with wind chill) of less than 0. We have had over six feet of snow this winter and snow has constantly covered the ground since December. Makenna has missed 8 days of school due to wind chills of –25 to –30. It has been the worst winter on record.
This is what our house has looked like ALL WINTER LONG. I’m not talking about just during a snow storm; the snow has never melted from the FIRST snow storm and new snow just keeps piling on top of old snow.
We really should have taken the trampoline down this year because no matter how often we clear it off, it just stays saggy from new snow. I’m worried that we just really messed up our mat!
I took this picture to show that the snow is up to Makenna’s shoulders!
Is there a car in there???
If you know me AT ALL, you know that I hate the snow. I hated it when I lived in Rexburg, and I told Austin I was NEVER going back to snow and cold after we moved to Arizona… and then we moved here to Michigan! After my car accident last year, I hated the snow even more! I won’t drive when there is snow on the roads (which is all the time for our neighborhood), so I am basically stuck in doors unless Austin is home and drives us somewhere. People born in the South just aren’t meant for cold and snow; it is just a fact of life!
However, I decided that we might grow to like the snow more if we actually got to go out and PLAY in the snow. It is too tall to play in out in our backyard, so we decided to find a sledding hill and take the kids sledding. It was our first time sledding (well except for Idaho-born Austin of course), and we had so much fun. I was worried the kids would get scared going down by themselves, but they were instantly pros!
Myles, however, hated it. He was really bundled up but still didn’t like being in the cold. He went down a couple of times on the sled and was totally indifferent about it. He cried the whole time so after an hour he and I had to go and sit in the car. : (
Would we go sledding again? Yes! It was fun! But next time we need to find someone to watch the baby for us!
Did it make us like the snow more? Umm, no. Snow is only fun for the OCCASSIONAL playing, not for every day living! I actually don’t think my opinion will ever change about that, but it was fun to get out for the day and have some play time!
