Birthday week continues…

Our March birthday week continued with Makenna’s sixth birthday on Friday. This year was our very first birthday with a school age kid and it was a little sad to not have our birthday girl with us at home all day, but Makenna loved all her at-school birthday fun!

That week Makenna was the Student of the Week at school. She got to share a lot of her favorites with her classmates, including the cute “All About Makenna” poster she made.

On her actual birthday she got up and dressed and then was really excited to see what presents she received.

We got her a big sewing/craft kit because she is turning into such a crafty little kid:

And she also received a school kit to play school:

She and Max instantly got started playing school:

They have had so much fun playing with that!

Cute birthday girl:

For breakfast Makenna chose to have fruit and granola and yogurt with chocolate milk.

And then she was off to school! That afternoon the boys and I went to her classroom to share birthday treats with her classmates. We made little glowstick favors that she passed out:

And then for her treat we made cotton candy cones.

When we got to her school she passed out her cotton candy cones and juice and her favors and then everyone sang Happy Birthday to her and she (with Max joining her) got to enjoy her treats with her classmates.

It was fun for Max to get to be there and it was cute to see Makenna introduce him to her classmates and classroom. Afterwards we went back home and Makenna finished her school day.

That night Makenna had dance so we just had spaghetti (one of her favorites) for dinner. Then after dance we had cake at home (I took a picture, but can’t find it anywhere! Grr!)

On Saturday night we went out to one of her favorite restaurants, Don Pablos, for one of her favorite foods—quesadillas. We totally forgot that the restaurant would be busy (hello Saturday night!) so it was late before we got to eat, but the food ended up being delicious as always!

She loved getting to wear a sombrero and getting sung to!

Happy birthday Miss Makenna!

Myles’ First Birthday

Our sweet little Myles turned one on March 3. We were so excited to celebrate this little guy!

Myles got up on his birthday and was excited to see his birthday wall. He loved looking at the balloons and pointing at them!

Next was presents time! We got him two gifts that we thought he would enjoy:

And his big siblings made him cute little cards:

They were so excited to show him their cards!

Then it was play time… only the big kids played with his toys and he didn’t get to play with them at all! Luckily he didn’t seem to care!

20140303_070809

For breakfast we had Myles favorite breakfast—pancakes. He loves them!

We had preschool that morning and Myles had fun bugging the preschool kids. : )

And then for lunch we had Nutella sandwiches—he had accidently grabbed and eaten one of the big kids’ leftover sandwiches a few days prior and loved it, so I decided to let him have it again for his special birthday lunch! He loved it and it was a MESS!

We decided to go to Red Robin for his birthday dinner because he loves French fries. However it was kind of a disaster. It took FOREVER for them to bring our food and then when we finally got our meals I was served the wrong food and we had to send it back. So by the time we fed this birthday boy he was over it and ready to go home!

They did give us my dinner (the one that was wrong) for free and brought out a free dessert for Myles, but by that point he was crying so we had to just leave. It made me sad because I think otherwise he would have loved hearing them sing to him.

Not a happy birthday boy!

He wasn’t impressed with the singing…

image[5]

But was more impressed with his dessert!

He was so grumpy we just let him have a bite and then took the rest home as leftovers. It didn’t really matter anyway because he still had a whole new cake at home waiting for him!

image[13]

He was really confused at first and didn’t know what to do with it…

image[20]

But after a little help from mom…

image[21]

He figured it out!

image[24]

He loved it! : D

He didn’t, however, enjoy being so messy! So after a quick bath our birthday boy was ready for bed. It ended up being a late night, but we think he had fun on his special day! We sure do love our little one year old!

Myles is one!

(I am behind on blogging so Myles is now actually 13 months old. So my “facts” about him are probably more for him now at this age then right when he turned one!)

We love this Myles boy! He has been such a joy and has brought such happiness into our family! Even now, after having him in our family for over a year, we can’t get enough of this child! He is going to be one spoiled little turkey—but spoiled in the best way; spoiled with LOVE!

Myles was the latest of our three children to master large motor skills. He rolled over later, he crawled later, and he walked later. By his one year birthday he still wasn’t walking. He could stand and we KNEW he COULD walk, but he just wouldn’t do it. When we would try to get him to walk from me to Austin, he would do it but he would cry the entire time. It wasn’t until about 12 1/2 months that he actually started walking confidently on his own. Now at 13 months he is a walking pro. : ) He loves to practice his new skill and toddles all over our house now!

1798513_10100491431516034_52588380_n

Myles is generally a very happy little guy. He is a mama’s boy and gets clingy sometimes, but we can usually find something to make him happy again!

1896899_10100491430862344_97503309_n

Myles has 8 teeth (four front and four bottom) and is working on four of his molars. He is still nursing and I’m afraid I will NEVER get him weaned because he loves nursing! He currently nurses 4-6 times a day. He also doesn’t really like table food yet (his pediatrician said it is probably a texture thing and to not worry too much about it yet). So right now he eats two tubs of oatmeal/cereal/rice baby foods for breakfast, two tubs of baby food for lunch (a meat and a vegetable), and two tubs of baby food for dinner (a meat and a fruit). He will also eat some of our dinner at meal times (breads, crusts, sometimes fruits or vegetables). He usually has 2-3 snacks a day. His favorites are the baby veggie puffs and fruit and yogurt bites. He loves water and drinking out of his own cup but will only drink a little milk.

1932303_10100491431291484_429931507_n

Myles is becoming a regular little talker. He can mimic just about anything but will only do it when HE wants to. On his own he will say cat, snack, shoes, socks, Mama, DaDa. He will also sometimes say “Night Night” and “All Done.” He loves to answer every question by shaking his head no. The big kids think he is hilarious and laugh like crazy at him when he does it.

1970439_10100491430922224_1717587409_n

Myles loves to play with the big kids. He climbs all over them and thinks he is just as big as they are! He also loves rolling cars and trucks back and forth and making little car noises. He likes to play with the toy kitchen and open and shut doors and drawers and get into trouble! We are always chasing him out of the kitchen or bathrooms or laundry room; it is almost impossible to keep this mischievous boy out! We recently got a cat and Myles loves to pet and kiss and chase her. : )

10003893_10100491431176714_1890354710_n

Myles is still not the best sleeper. We put him down to bed at night between 7 and 8. For the most part he sleeps until 6 or 7, but sometimes he still wakes up a couple of times during the night. We just cover him back up and put him back to bed—no more night time nursing! Speaking of covering him up, he still has to be swaddled before he will sleep. It is pretty silly because then he immediately unwraps his arms and rolls over on his side or stomach, but he won’t go to sleep unless we wrap him to begin with! He is no longer taking a morning nap even though I think he still needs one-- he is pretty whiney in the mornings. But if we put him down for a morning nap he won’t take an afternoon nap and I much prefer afternoon naps. So currently we let him whine in the mornings and then put him down for a nap right after lunch. Then he will take a nap for about a hour and a half.

Myles is such a darling little guy and we love having him in our family. Here’s to another great year with our sweet baby Myles!

100th Day of School

Man am I behind in blogging! : )

Back in February Makenna had her 100th day of kindergarten. She had to bring in a poster of 100 items to share with the class. What is more “Makenna” than a princess with 100 jewels on her dress?

20140225_162244

She (with some help from mom) worked really hard on her poster and was really excited to share it with her class!

She came home with some other cute things that day:

I love it! I love the cute creativity of kindergartners!
