Augh!!! I cannot believe that we only have ONE more week until Makenna starts Kindergarten! That is NUTS!!! We are already on week 9 of our summer activities!!!
This week we stayed fairly busy. On Monday the kids were super excited all day because they FINALLY filled their sticker chart up for being good at bed time and could finally go on their much anticipated date with Mom and Dad.
It only took them SEVERAL months to fill up 28 spots, haha!
We had promised the kids the entire time that we would take them to a movie when they filled up their sticker chart. However, we are poor… Haha, luckily we have a $1 theater that is reasonably close to our house and for our date night we were able to go and see the movie Epic for $4! Not too shabby for a date night! The kids really enjoyed the movie and were super excited that they finally earned their special night with Mom and Dad. The baby did fairly well too (it was his first movie!). He was a little fussy so I stood up in the back with him the entire time, but at least I got to see the movie as well!
On Tuesday we went to the beach and had a great day. It was nice and sunny and we had lots of friends there to spend time with. Max cracked all of us up by pretending to make a beard and mustache with the sand.
That kid!
Wednesday morning we got up super early and took Max a couple of towns over to his eye doctor’s appointment. They told us we need to start patching him again for a hour a day. Boo! Other than that he is fine and they sent us on our merry little way (and charged us $40 for our trouble!) until we come back to get his new glasses in December.
That afternoon Makenna went to a birthday party. The theme was Alice and Wonderland. Makenna made an adorable White Rabbit!
Max was so, so, so sad that he didn’t get to go to the birthday party. So he and I (and the baby) had our own special day. We went and got an ice cream and then played at the playground. Max seemed to really enjoy himself!
We spent Thursday and Friday at home trying to catch up on some things. I feel like I always have cooking and cleaning and baking to do at home! Not to mention all the preparing I do for my class at church and for preschool! So it was nice to have two days to stay at home and get some things done! Max was also excited because he finished up his summer school work this week (Makenna has one more week of work to do next week—she is doing a little bit of extra Math practice then)!
Today (Saturday) Austin had to work so the kids and I got some chores done around the house. Then in the afternoon we went to Touch a Truck. We go every year and the kids love getting to see all the vehicles up close!
Playing in a moving truck:
Okay, so while we were looking at the truck an old guy came up to the owners of the truck and started asking how he could ship some drugs. Now I’m sure he was kidding, but this is a kids’ event! Who does that?!? So we quickly got the kids out of the truck and moved on to the next one. Some people are ridiculous!
Posing in front of an old-timey ambulance:
And playing in a modern-day ambulance:
A city bus:
I tried to take a selfie of me and the kids… didn’t work out, haha:
A monster truck (thank goodness Dad was able to get off work for a little while and come with us! Mom couldn’t have lifted the kids up in there!):
An RV (Makenna said this one was her favorite. She thought it was awesome that you could drive around and watch TV or take a nap at the same time, haha):
Bus (Makenna was excited to try out a bus when she will be riding her own bus soon!)
Max’s favorite—the fire truck:
Sweet baby:
Doing crafts:
Checking out the animals:
More cool cars:
The owner of the pink car loved that the kids were so excited about her car, so she let them climb in!
At about that time, Austin got paged and immediately had to go back in to the hospital. Since we were with him, we got to go too (yay us! haha). We hung out in the cafeteria for a while and the baby got to sit in a high chair for the very first time (we threw away our high chair after it got gross with the other kids so he has been sitting in his Bumbo to eat until we get a new highchair). Too cute!
He is so big!
Hair this week:
I’m not concentrating on hair too much any more because well, I’m just not. But here’s what we did this week anyway (I’m not going to post pictures anymore after Makenna starts school unless we do something extra fun):
Three Dutch French braids and then braided them together:
A side pony tail. Then did three twists and then braided them together:
Three French braids (what was up with doing things three times this week?) and a braided bun:
Did some twists on top and then a Dutch French braid (which for some reason looks crooked in the pictures!):
One of Makenna’s favorites—a side pony tail, her favorite bow, and curls added:
Pictures of the baby:
I cannot get over how grown up this baby is getting! He is just showing so much personality! He is usually a very happy and a VERY chill baby, but sometimes (and it is usually seemingly out of the blue) he throws the biggest temper tantrums! Then he stiffens out his legs and seems to try to stand up and he screams his head off. Then a second later he is fine again… Haha. So I think he is like his Mom—quick to get angry and then quick to get over it!
In the last week he has also got his first tooth. We didn’t even notice that he was getting it. Just one day he grabbed Austin’s finger and stuck it in his mouth and Austin yelled, “Ouch!” and sure enough he had a little tooth! It’s all the way in but is just still small. He really likes rubbing his tongue and lip over it though. It’s a new experience for him! It’s cute and you see it in a lot of his pictures lately!
Myles has also started to really enjoy playing little games. He really likes “Ride a Little Horsey” and “Trot Trot to Boston” (at the end he likes it when we turn him upside down). He will laugh and bounce up and down and want us to do it over and over again. He also really loves “Patty Cake” and sometimes he rubs his hands together and I know he is wanting us to do it again!
You can also make kissing noises at him and he will grab your face with both hands and pull you close and give you kisses on your cheek! So adorable! But sometimes he hurts when he pinches your cheeks, but when you pull away he cries! Cute baby LOVES to give kisses already!!!
This week he has also started really sitting up by himself. He can sit up for pretty much as long as he wants to now! Because he can sit up, we brought out his music table and he (and the older kids!) has enjoyed playing with it this week.
He still doesn’t sleep very well (I still get up at least two times a night with him), but man is he a sweetie! 5 1/2 months and we still aren’t tired of him yet! : )
