Happy 3 Months, Baby Myles!

On June 3, baby Myles turned three months old. I am both in awe that he is already three months old and in disbelief that he has ONLY been with us for three months!

Before they moved, our friend Becca took some great pictures of Myles for his three month photo shoot. He wasn’t feeling particularly smiley that day, but I think she still got some great shots!

At three months old, Myles is still not nearly as scheduled as I would like him to be. He is still exclusively nursed (and in fact will NOT take a bottle and has only had two or three his entire life) and I still struggle with even getting him to go two and a half hours between feedings. Yet when he eats, it is only for ten minutes or less (usually around five minutes is all). I think he is probably a pretty efficient, quick eater, but I wish he would eat a little longer at each feeding and then eat less frequently! But he will NOT have that! What do you do?!? Just feed him as he wants I guess!

Myles is still not the best sleeper. During the day he will usually not nap longer than a hour. When he is awake he isn’t cranky at all, so I probably should just get over wishing for longer naps because he must not need them… but it is SO hard to get things done when your baby only naps for 45 minutes to a hour! At night he is going to bed at around 8 or so and getting up at around 1 am, 4 am, and 6 am. He gets up for good at around 7 am. Once again, this schedule isn’t very consistent, but no matter what time he goes to bed or gets up, his longest sleep is usually no longer than 5 hours. The longest stretch we have had is 6 hours and that was one night he went to sleep at 6 so I still didn’t get very much sleep unfortunately!

Myles is still wearing his cloth diapers. The entire cloth diaper process hasn’t been as bad as I thought it would be. He is only getting dirty diapers every other day now (even though on dirty diaper day he sometimes has 2 or 3 SUPER dirty diapers) so the wash process really isn’t bad at all. I just have to do diaper laundry every other day. The diapers are also pretty bulky (so wearing just pull-on pants is sometimes a problem), but they are SO cute! : ) Myles actually really likes it when we change his diaper, weirdly enough. He kicks and “talks” and smiles the entire time! Silly guy! : ) Myles is a pretty clean little guy. Max was constantly spitting up and getting his clothes filthy; Myles usually only goes through one outfit a day. He likes to make spit bubbles, but he only actually spits up a few times a day. A boy who stays clean all day? I’ll take it!

Myles is growing great. At his last doctor’s appointment, his doctor said whatever we are doing, keep it up! He is up to over 15 pounds now and is all chub. We LOVE our chubby little monkey! The kids are always telling him they are going to eat his chubby cheeks for dinner, haha. He is currently wearing 6-9 months clothes.

Myles is a very social little guy. Nothing makes him happier than to be held and/or talked to. He just smiles and gets so excited when you “baby talk” to him. He also “talks” up a storm back at you! His doctor said you can tell he is talked to a lot because he is always babbling and yelling and cooing! Sometimes when Myles wakes up and I’m busy doing something, I will send the kids in there to talk to him. He will stay perfectly content as long as they do that! When they turn away from him and don’t pay attention to him, he gets VERY mad!

Myles is usually awake about a hour to a hour and a half at a time (we try to follow an Eat-Awake-Sleep schedule). During his awake times he likes to sit in his swing (although he doesn’t like it as much now that we have it sitting straight up instead of laying back), stand up in his Exersaucer, and sit up on the corner of the couch. He has started being able to reach for his toys and play a little bit more. He also likes it when I wear him in my Moby wrap when we run errands or while I am doing chores. He doesn’t mind his carseat when someone is talking to him while he is in it, but he doesn’t love car rides. His FAVORITE though is laying flat on his back and letting people talk to him. He also REALLY likes laying on my bed and watching the ceiling fan and lights! However, all this back laying is making his head get a little flat so we are trying to do more tummy time. He HATES tummy time! Even when we lay beside him and talk to him or show him toys or prop him up a little on a pillow, he still gets mad VERY quickly when on his tummy. We try to put him on his tummy each awake time but he usually won’t last more than five minutes without screaming so much I flip him back over! He may never crawl or turn over—he isn’t on his tummy enough to practice and when he is sleeping on his back he is swaddled so can’t practice then either! Myles (so far) also isn’t a big fan of his Bumbo. His bulky cloth diaper makes it a tight fit so he just doesn’t seem to love sitting up in it. So for now he continues to just sit on the couch!

Myles is definitely a sweetheart. He rarely cries or fusses. He loves eating on his fists. He loves to be swaddled up for sleep time and we can’t get him to sleep without it! He smiles a lot and seems to be pretty content and happy. He for sure has his preferences and likes and dislikes, but other than already being opinionated, he is pretty chill. We love this little guy!!!

T-Ball 2013

This year Makenna is playing T-ball with some kids in our ward. It’s actually a really fun set up.  About 20 of the kids in our ward (ages 5-8 so Max just barely misses the cut off by a year!) form their own little league. They will have games twice a week on Thursday and on Saturday. The first half of the “game” they will be divided into three groups to run practice drills. Then the second half they will split into two teams to scrimmage. They have their own little team shirts (and we got Max a shirt too so he doesn’t feel quite so left out) and are going to have a pizza party and get medals at the end of the season. It will be fun (Makenna is ALWAYS up for a chance to be around friends!) and will teach Makenna some baseball skills if she ends up wanting to play T-ball or softball with the community league later on.

Today (last Thursday… I’m posting this late!) was our first game and I will admit it was a bit stressful. It rained on and off all day so we never knew if they would end up being able to play. Then Austin (who is one of the coaches) got home from work late and we ended up arriving over half an hour late. Luckily it had been raining so everyone was delayed, but it stressed me out! Austin was also on-call so I was on pins and needles the entire time thinking he might be called in. Luckily he wasn’t but whew! Crazy day!

Before we left for the game, I took some pictures of the kiddos in their shirts.

She picked number 11 as her favorite number. Why? “Because each number is a straight line and they look so pretty together!” : )

Mr. Max picked number 3 as his favorite number because he is 3. Duh! : )

Cute kids! Max will be so excited next year when he is finally old enough to join in!

During the practice time, there were three different practice stations. Makenna’s first station was to practice hitting. I have practiced with her a bit so she at least wasn’t completely clueless when it came to batting!

Her next station practiced base running.

Good job high five! : )

She had a lot of fun just waiting for her turn because she got to talk to her friends and cheer for the other kids. She was definitely a little cheerleader!

The last practice session was practicing throwing to each other. Makenna isn’t the best thrower OR catcher but she, once again, had fun and enjoyed cheering for her friends as they threw the ball or caught it!

She looks so darn grown up!

Finally after the practice time the kids had a game. Each child batted through once. On Makenna’s turn she actually had a good hit. However she wasn’t sure what to do AFTER she hit the ball, haha. She just stood there until they told her to run and then she ran with the bat the entire way! Once on base she was still a bit lost and just ran when one of the coaches told her to and went where they told her to go. She told me she did GREAT though so I guess that’s all that mattered! When she played in the field she was also pretty lost and mostly just stood there cheering for everyone as they came up to bat!

And we can’t forget our handsome coach! He did a great job too! : D

When everything was over, Makenna was thoroughly pleased with herself and told us what a great T-ball player she is. She is also super excited for her next game. Max had fun playing with the other little three year old boys on the side and getting covered in mud from head to toe. He said he had a GREAT time and that he loved getting muddy! : ) Myles was awake the entire time and was perfectly content being held by me and other mamas. He stayed awake for almost four hours and was totally happy the entire time! I had fun socializing with the other parents. I consider the evening a success and we are excited for our T-ball season!
