Playing at the Playplace

Last Monday we went to the Metro Centre, so the kids and I headed over to the mall where the kids played at the Play Place for a little while.

I don’t know if it is a boy thing or what, but that Max sure can climb!  He was up the slide and up the ladder in no time flat!

Max’s One Year Pictures

Yesterday we got Mr. Max’s One Year Pictures back.  There’s only three different pictures (because we just did the cheap ones at Wal-Mart), but I still think they capture our little boy perfectly!

For some reason we can’t get Max to do the typical “smiley” pictures, but I just love how mischievous he looks!  Just like the “real” Max! : )

Stay tuned—next week we get our family pictures back!

Blogging Slacker…

I was looking at our blog today, and I realized that it had been two weeks since I had last blogged.  It’s not that we haven’t had anything going on, it’s just that I haven’t been taking pictures!  Get it together, Mom! : )

Okay, let’s see.  Since I’ve blogged last, Makenna made the treats for FHE and did SUCH a good job and had so much fun!  I really should let her help out in the kitchen more; she loves it!

Unfortunately I didn’t snap a picture of the finished product but they were cookies shaped like little hamburgers (including coconut “lettuce” and “ketchup and mustard” gel) and they were delicious!  Makenna should ALWAYS be in charge of treats!

Let’s see, what else…  Max had his one year check up and is right on track.  He is, however, a shorty—he is only in the 20th percentile for height!  So we have Makenna who was in the 97th and now Max who is only in the 20th…  Go figure!

We’ve been able to see a couple of movies in the theater with the kids—The new Shrek movie as well as Toy Story 3.  The kids and I joined some friends for Shrek and then Austin and I took just Makenna to Toy Story 3.  They only made it about an hour into Shrek (we ran out of popcorn so Max was DONE), but we watched all of Toy Story and loved it!  We also loved to get to take Makenna on a little “date.”  It’s nice to be able to spend a little Makenna/Mommy & Daddy time without her having to compete for attention with little man.

We also had Max’s one year pictures taken, as well as some fun family pictures.  We will be posting those in the next few weeks as they come in.

We’ve played LOTS AND LOTS with friends (both at our house and at theirs), swam in our little kid pool, played at the library, so on and so on.

We currently have Austin at home with us.  They have their “Boards Break” right now (it is a time set aside for them to study for their upcoming Boards) so he is home quite a bit and we LOVE it!

Hmm, oh Austin and I have had the opportunity to go on TWO dates in the last two weeks!  Amazing isn’t it?  The week before last we went to a movie preview with some friends and then Friday we went to Dave and Buster’s for dinner and to play.  Ah-mazing place!  Seriously, it was a blast!  It looks like we will be getting to go out quite a bit from now on—not only have I “made friends” with some young women in our ward, but we have also started up a little babysitting “co-op” with some friends of ours.  We will be taking turns watching each others kids. We have a 6 month old, 12 month old, 18 month old, 2 year old, and a 2 1/2 year old in the group.  So it’s a handful to watch that many kids who are that young, but it is also fun for the kids to get to play together and nice for us because then we get to go out and their parents watch OUR kids (we just take turns every week—so we watch the kids one week and then get two weeks of dates)! : )

Okay, last thing I’ve got—the other day Makenna was playing dress up and Max got in on the action.  He sat down at his little piano and I glanced over and I could have sworn it was Elton John! ; )  (Sorry for the blurry pictures—I snapped these fast on my phone!)Max-Elton John Max-Elton John 2

It’s hard to really see, but he has on a pink and a blue lei, is eating a pearl bracelet, and is holding a Sheriff’s badge.  Seriously, if he had the sunglasses, he would have been a dead ringer for old Elton!  Ha ha, should we be worried? : D

A Splish Splash Blast!

DSCN0801DSCN0819

Yesterday was Mr. Max’s first birthday, so we threw a little spur-of-the-moment birthday party for him (well, I decided to do the party on Monday, so that’s sort of spur-of-the-moment and sort of planned…).  I thought and thought and decided since it was June in Arizona, we would do a water party.  Unfortunately, even though every other day in the past couple of weeks has been 100+, yesterday the weather decided to be a high in the 80s and looked like rain!  How’s that for luck?!?  Nevertheless, we still celebrated Max with a “Splish Splash Blast!” with just a few of the kids’ friends.

Before the party, Max opened a couple of presents from Mom and Dad (he had actually already received presents last week in Idaho):

(Okay, so it may be a little weird to get your one year old boy a broom for his birthday… but he really likes to sweep!)

We decided to have his party be a luau/beach theme.

The Decorations:

The kids were both dressed to party at the “beach.”  Max was NOT happy with having to pose for a picture.  Luckily, big sister was!

We decided to have treats first (so the kids wouldn’t have to eat in their wet swimsuits).  We had cake, ice cream, chips, fruit snacks, a fruit salad, and a little trail mix.  Just snack food!

Max wasn’t really sure what he was supposed to do when it came time to blow out the candles so dad had to do it for him:

DSCN0823 But he knew what to do when it was time to eat!  Mmm, cake and fruit—his favorites!  He ate the fruit first and only ate the cake because he ran out of fruit—silly boy!

DSCN0824 DSCN0825 DSCN0827 As I said, it was pretty cold, but the kids still braved the swimming pools (luckily I filled them up that morning so they had a little time to warm up).  I had a small pool for the smallest kids, but it ended up mostly just being Max’s private pool!  He didn’t mind! : )  Makenna had a blast playing with all of her friends in the water in the bigger pool!

We also set up a slip ‘n’ slide but it was just way too cold for that fresh water:

After swimming, we headed inside so Max could open presents.  I’m not sure if he just wasn’t interested, or if he was just a little in shock over all of the excitement, but Makenna ended up opening the presents and just giving them to Max (the problem could also be that Makenna was just TOO aggressive with wanting to “help”):

Thanks for those who came to help our little man celebrate!

Max is One!

Today my gorgeous Mr. Max turned one!  In a way, it makes me a little sad—how is it possible that my BABY is ONE?!?  But on the other hand, how thankful I am for what a sweet, big boy he is!

Max is my quieter kid (notice I said quietER, not QUIET!).  He is usually perfectly happy to sit and play with his toys all by himself.  He loves to pull things out (books off shelves, toys out of their boxes, Makenna’s hair : ) etc.) and climb on everything.  He loves Makenna and follows her around everywhere, even if she doesn’t want him to!  He is always so happy and cheerful and he ADORES his mommy : D (and maybe daddy too).  In fact, lately he has even been clingy (can you imagine?  A clingy one year old?  ha ha).  He is inquisitive and smart and oh so handsome.  He is just now starting to get into the “trouble” stage and usually during the day he will pull off all the toilet paper off the roll, unload the dishwasher, unplug the computer, empty my cabinets, etc.  But then he smiles that cute “fat man” smile at you, and you just have to forgive him!

We love you Mr. Max!!!  Here’s for a second year just as great as the first!
