Anyway, yesterday I was off (this is my Fall Break) so Austin took off from school and we kept Makenna with us and we went to the zoo! It was such a fabulous day! The weather was hot, but not too hot, and the zoo had several shady places to pause and rest so that was nice. Makenna didn't care about the zoo too much; she was too busy looking at the boys and girls or at her seat belt or the ground, but Austin and I had fun looking at the animals! And Makenna was a perfect angel all day, even without babyfood and a nap, so it was a fantastic day! We took a ton of pictures, but I will just post a few of our favorites:
This is a crazy old baboon. I hated the baboons! Their bums were all red and gross and it made me sick to look at them when they walked around. But this picture is cool!
We were able to go into the little squirrel monkey's "cage" (not really a cage because it was pretty large). The monkeys just ran all around us. We were not allowed to touch them, but they were really right there with us! One of the monkeys was right behind us when Austin snapped this picture, but it's pretty hard to see. The monkeys were smaller than newborn babies!
We went on this out of the way trail to see Bighorn sheep and stuff. It felt like we were out in the middle of the desert! But way off in the distance we captured this picture! We kept thinking this guy was fake because he never moved, just stood on top of the rock! But we looked in the telescope thing and saw him moving around. We guessed he just wanted to be King of the Rock!
This jaguar was so ridiculously beautiful! They said he is just a baby at 6 months, but he is much bigger than our baby! He kept pacing around and seemed angry because these dumb little boys kept running around blowing whistles. The zoo people told them to stop, but they were such naughty children they just kept at it and the mom didn't do anything! I so do not like it when kids are bad and parents do nothing about it! Anyway, this picture doesn't do the jaguar justice! I think it was the most beautiful animal we saw!
I don't remember what this bird was called, but we thought it was so weird because it looks like it has a million beaks on top of each other! At the zoo you walked through very shady areas and there were millions of bird cages and waterfalls and they had mist you could walk through. It felt like you were in the jungle! But there was also a section you walked through and the birds weren't caged. I kept getting scared that I would be attacked!
This is me and Makenna in front of the warthogs. I was suprised that they didn't smell that much!
The flamingos. So strange, only a couple were standing on one leg! Notice that Makenna is more interested in my necklace...
Look how close Austin and Makenna got to the giraffes! Ha ha, and look at how tired our baby looks!
This is back in the monkey cage. I totally missed the monkey. They are too fast!
Now, we had a fabulous day. But this last picture says it all. This is how Makenna felt about the day:
Ha ha, like I said, Makenna was super good and didn't cry or anything all day, even without her nap. But she sure didn't even glance at the animals our whole time there! We just couldn't get her to look up at them! She was too busy studying the ground! But it was so wonderful to get out and about as a family! Our first family outing was a success!
Oh, one more thing (I guess Makenna did cry once!). We went to the gift shop and bought Makenna a little giraffe before we left. She loved it and kept giving it kisses! Well on our way to the car, she dropped it. I picked it up and gave it to her. Well Austin pointed out that it was dirty. So I took it from her to wipe it off. She screamed and cried and through a fit! The second I gave it back to her she stopped crying. Hmm, do you think someone is getting to be a spoiled girl? Ha ha, she has a temper that is for sure!
