On Monday we got up and had breakfast and then Austin hit the gym while I hit the swimming pool (and they call HIM a doctor; who’s the smarter one now? Ha ha, I know exactly what to do on vacation; sit by the pool!!! None of this “working out” business!). Then we got ready for the day and went window shopping at the outlets for a while. Next it was back to the strip to pick up our show tickets, lunch at a food court, and back to the hotel for a couple more hours by the pool. Then it was get ready again and head back to the strip to the Tropicana. We ate dinner there at the Beach Café and then went to our first show. We went to see a group called Recycled Percussion. These guys were finalists on “America’s Got Talent.” Two guys in the group played the drums, one guy was on guitar, and one guy was doing the synthesizer and did computer stuff. They used recycled materials to play most of their music. When we got there, we were told to grab a drum stick and a “piece of junk.”
Before the show, they had a slide show full of different facts and music played. The entire audience jammed out with their drum stick and “junk” while watching the slide show.
When the show started, the band members came down from the ceiling playing the drums—upside down!
They then told us to look for a colored dot on our “junk”:
Our color represented which team we would be on. Each member of the group was the leader of a team. All during the show, we would have to play music on our junk in support of our team captain.
Austin and I were both on the blue team and this was our team leader:
During the show, the guys also made music by welding (weird to explain, but actually very cool!):
They also had a drum off between Red and Blue (of course we were for Blue—he was our team captain!):
The show was VERY interactive. At one point, they had audience members come on stage and put on monkey masks and do different things. They actually asked me to come on stage, but I turned them down. : )
At the end of the show, the guys did an encore and played the “drums” on ladders. They would toss their drumsticks to each other and catch them without ever missing a beat. They also drummed up and down the ladders and switched ladders back and forth and all sorts of awesome tricks.
The show was AWESOME! Loud and fast paced and just completely fantastic! We totally enjoyed ourselves!
After the show we stopped and had some ice cream and walked around for a bit and then went back to our hotel for a little TV and popcorn. It was definitely a fun day in Vegas!
