Well after ending our week last week pretty hectically, we are back in the saddle with our normal-day-to-day!
First though, I took this picture of Max last week and forgot to post it. That kid cracks me up!
What? Don’t you wear your safety goggles around the house every day? ; ) Ha ha, oh Max!
On Monday we went to our Play and Learn. Continuing on with the Nutrition unit, today we studied orange fruits and vegetables. We started off by singing our hello song. I took pictures of the kids doing it this week because they looked so darn cute. ; )
Max has plenty of orange shirts (honestly, three short sleeve orange shirts and like 5 long sleeve orange shirts!), but orange really isn’t Makenna’s color (all of her shirts are either pink or purple. If it is a different color, it more than likely has something pink or purple on it!)… SO we had to get creative with her outfit! We pulled an orange skirt from her summer clothes and paired it with leggings. Then we put on a pink shirt that had orange in it and topped it all off with a big orange flower hairbow. I thought she looked ADORABLE so there are many pictures of her from today, ha ha.
Anyway, back to the pictures. Today they sang their song while patting their heads. Look at big-boy Max!
Just one more comment about fashionista Makenna-- today we put Makenna’s hair all on the side, over her shoulder. She said it made her look like a sister missionary. Do sister missionaries wear their hair like that a lot?!? I haven’t noticed; I will have to start paying attention to their hair more! : )
After our song, we read our Regie Nutrition book. In the book, Regie eats orange fruits and vegetables and can hop like a kangeroo. So after the book, we got to hop like a kangeroo. : ) We also danced to our movement song.
Ha ha, apparently Makenna has to stick her tongue out to dance. : )
Max had to go out in the hallway for a little talk during the dance. The blur in the next picture is him whining and begging to be held. I told him, “We go to the play and learn to play and learn—not to be held by our mommy the whole time!” Jenn Larson—you will be interested to know that Max STILL wants me to hold him all of the time! It didn’t change with our move to Michigan!
Next we broke up into our groups. Our first activity was sorting little plastic fruit. First, the kids sorted them by type:
Then Makenna started doing patterns with her fruit. She did A-B patterns, A-A-B patterns, A-A-A-B patterns, ha ha, she really got into the whole pattern thing!
She was SO proud of herself! She would do the pattern, then say the pattern for me, and then clap her hands, “I did it, Mom!” and give me big high fives!
Max would line his fruit up, and then say whatever pattern Makenna was doing. So although he had oranges and apples before him, he would say, “Pineapple, pineapple, pineapple, banana!” Ha ha.
In our next group, we mixed red and yellow paint to make orange paint. Then the kids painted a picture. Makenna said her picture was orange cupcakes. Yum! : ) (There is an overload of pictures here because I couldn’t decide which ones were my favorite!)
“I did it, Mom!!!”
Our last group was playing with orange playdough. Once again, I’m glad this isn’t held at my house. There was smooshed playdough ALL OVER the carpet!
I love seeing my kids playing well together!
After clean-up was snack time. Today we tried different orange fruits and vegetables: carrots, orange cauliflower, butternut squash, cantaloupe, and oranges. Today the kids basically ate nothing… Makenna said she doesn’t LIKE orange food!
See Max’s face? Once again, telling me his food is “gisgusting!”
Makenna did at least eat a carrot (which was, in fact, a little victory because she usually says she doesn’t like carrots!).
Finally we finished up with a book, our goodbye song, and an orange sticker on our name tag. Another fun Play and Learn!
On Monday night, I attended a class on creating schedules and routines for your children. This was the first class that I have ever got to go to—usually the childcare is all full so I don’t get to go! The kids LOVED playing with the toys there! However, we were pretty late getting home and to bed (after our crazy weekend, we really should have gone to bed EARLY not LATER!).
On Tuesday, Makenna had preschool and Max and I did our own school at home. For some reason, Max just wasn’t too into school today. He wanted to just play with his scissors and glue all day rather than do school! However, we did do a few things. Here are a few pictures from today:
Pretending to be a dinosaur named “Maxasaurus.” Roar!!!
Making a Stegosaurus:
Counting pictures and answering, “Is it 1 or 2?” He struggled with this. I’m not sure if it is because he doesn’t know what numbers look like or if it was just an off day. You can never tell with Mr. Max! We thought forever that he didn’t know his animal sounds; nope, he knew them—he just didn’t want to tell US!
He just wants to glue!
Doing a circle puzzle:
Look at him trying to put the tiny circle in the big circle’s spot. He DEFINITELY knows how to do this puzzle, he was just in one of those moods! I think he thought this morning was “opposite-of-what-mom-tells-me" day!
Finally I just gave up on attempting school with him today and I let him go play while I finished up my morning chores.
I don’t have any pictures of Makenna from school today, but she said she had fun “and I was really good today, Mom!” Let’s see, what did she say about today? She said they ate raisins and goldfish and they played a game and “Makenna and Holly and Cayson and Alex and Jacob” were all the winners! I knew what they talked about today (because I teach the same lesson to Max), so I quizzed her about a few things. One example, “Makenna, what letter does the word ‘dinosaur’ start with?” “Mom! It’s a D! Now let’s sing a song!” Ha ha, so I guess she did fine today!
This afternoon I worked on planning out our daily schedule and made routine cards (I was putting into action the things I learned at my class last night!). Then when the kids got up from their naps, we cleaned their rooms and organized all of their toys. I made cute little tags for all of their toy bins so hopefully they STAY organized now!
We were all still so tired from the long weekend and our late night last night, so we had early dinner and bedtimes.
About two hours after the kids were supposed to be sleeping, I heard a loud crash. All of those toys I had organized? Max dumped them out all over the floor. All of the name tags I had made? Max ripped them into shreds. I wanted to cry!!! : (
On Wednesday morning I was asked to attend a meeting at our Play and Learn to give my input on things that need to change/improve/etc. The kids were VERY excited because they got to play with Play and Learn toys for the THIRD time this week! ; )
Afterwards, we headed to the library for a 1, 2, 3 Chat. They had toys, crafts, and books set up and the kids could just free play however they would like.
(I realize I post a LOT of pictures of my kids. But seriously, I can’t help it! I’m such a nerd that I go back and look at these blog posts A LOT and I love seeing how dang cute they are!)
This puppy is so cute! It has a little sock in its mouth and when you pull the sock it shakes and barks and growls at you. : )
Max loved playing with several different toys. This big puppy was a big hit!
Hammering was also a favorite of his:
Makenna spent most of her time playing with this little doll house. She LOVES doll houses lately!
It was fun for the kids, which is always fun for mom!
Wednesday night, we had our friend Jen and her kids over for dinner again. As always, another fun night! I’m sorry that her husband has to work late, but oh how I like it for myself! It’s nice to have another adult around at dinner time! : )
Okay, this is already a pretty big post, so I will post part two of our week this weekend!
