Oh What a Day!

Yesterday (as I’ve said like four times in blog posts this week!) was Makenna’s big 0-3 birthday! She was 3 years old!  And oh how I LOVE my children’s birthdays!  Seriously, their birthdays and Christmas are my favorite “holidays” of the year!  Yesterday was a bit hard because it was a week day and Daddy was in school, but we tried to make the most of it!

We decided to open presents after Austin got home so he could watch her too. But when Makenna woke up, she REALLY wanted to open presents, so I let her open just one (and took pictures on my phone and sent them to Daddy so he could “watch” her open it).  She opened a present from Grandma Becky:

And a sweater:

After that, we got ready for the day.  As I was doing Makenna’s hair, I once again complained about it being pretty raggedy on the ends (she has only had ONE haircut her whole life!).  Then I thought, “Why complain?  Go and do something about it!”  So I made an appointment to go and get her hair done at a kid’s salon.

When we got there, she was pretty nervous.  But she quickly began to enjoy getting a nice shampoo!

And then she enjoyed a Barbie fairy movie while she got her haircut (I couldn’t even get her to look at me because her eyes were glued to the tv!):

Afterwards it looked about the same, but was much more even and had a better shape to it!

The extra fun thing about this salon—they had a kids play area in it!  So after Makenna’s hair cut, she and Max played with a train table and legos and watched a movie, and I got my hair trimmed up too.  Win for us all! : D

Makenna has been begging to ride the little carousal every time we go to the mall, so after haircuts yesterday, we headed over for a little ride!  With her birthday money from Grandma Becky, she treated herself and Max to three rides!

Then they played for a while at the little kids play center.

After a fun lunch in the food court (why does food taste so much better when you eat at the food court???), we headed home for naps.  A few minutes after Makenna woke up from her nap (pretty sure she didn’t actually sleep!), we heard the doorbell.  Makenna had a special delivery!

Aunt Melissa, Uncle Tyler, Alexa, Jonah, and Eli sent Makenna these gorgeous flowers with a fun stuffed animal attached:

And a balloon!  Pretty awesome!!!

Makenna thinks that little stuffed animal is the funniest thing ever!  It makes this weird noise when you press it and the kids can’t stop giggling over it! : D

Makenna watched some favorite movies while Max continued to nap on.  His SUPER LONG nap caused us to miss playing with friends at the park, but she was okay with the movies. : )  After he finally woke up, we went to the grocery store to pick up her cake and ice cream!  Then we came home and made dinner (spaghetti, her favorite!) and Daddy came home.  You know what that meant!  Presents!

A Rapunzel bracelet from Max (only he didn’t know about it!):

Two new Dora movies (oh how we love two-for-one movies!):

Rapunzel wall stickers for her room (seriously, you can find the BEST stuff in the grocery store’s clearance section!  And it is SO cheap!):

A Princess Book (she saw this in a bookstore and sat at a little table and looked at it the whole time we were at the store!  She watched us buy it but then seemed so surprised when she opened it on her birthday!  Ha ha):

And a fun game from Grandma Becky (oh how this girl loves to play games!):

Max also received a gift from Grandma Becky, but I think he is a little confused about how this game is played! ; )

After dinner and clean-up, a few friends came over for cake and ice cream.

For some reason, Makenna has been talking about her birthday cake for weeks!  She said she wanted everyone to come over and she wanted a birthday cake with three YELLOW candles (why yellow?).  She wanted everyone to sing to her, then she would blow out her three yellow candles and everyone would clap their hands. Okay, we could do that! ; )

The Rapunzel cake (Makenna picked it out herself!):

A number 3 and three yellow candles:

And we all clapped our hands!  Her wishes granted!

After we all ate, we talked and played for a while.  It was pretty funny, actually!  The moms and babies sat around in the living room talking, all the dads stood in the kitchen (probably talking about boring stuff like school and medicine!), and the kids all disappeared to Makenna’s room!  Soon someone glanced at the clock and we discovered it was already after 8pm!  So quickly we cleaned up and let Makenna open her remaining presents!

A fun set with FOUR princess card games (games and princesses—someone knows Makenna well!) from the Petersons:

And a big My Little Pony from the Blooms (she has had SO much fun doing that pony’s hair!):

After our friends left, Makenna had a pretty large melt down.  I think we partied too hard and stayed up a little too late!  But it was definitely a really fun day!!!

We still have gifts from my mom to receive and then her big Princess party on the 19th, and then we can say Makenna’s birthday celebration will be officially over! : D

Happy Birthday, Makenna! What a nice sister to spend her bday money so that she and Max could go on some rides. What a sweet girl. Not sure I would have done that when I was 3...

That's cute she got to get her hair done (and you too!)-- I love when little girls come in and they are super excited and nervous to get "prettied" (my niece says that). I love being a girl!
