Whew! I promise, it seems like some sort of craziness is always going on in our house! Remember how, on Saturday, I said I was going to get the yard work and housework done? Well, didn’t happen. I finally figured out my thermometer wasn’t working, and checked Max’s temperature with a different one. Yeah, he had a fever—102.4. So off we went to the Urgent Care! Turns out he has croup—again. It really seems like my kids constantly have croup! So off we ran to the pharmacy to fill new medicine. Then Max and I spent the rest of the weekend at home! Makenna did go to church on Sunday with some friends in our ward, but Max and I didn’t leave the living room for the weekend! This poor baby has cried and cried and cried. NOTHING makes him happy. If he wants his water, I’ll give it to him and he says he doesn’t want that cup. If I tell him to put on PJs, he cries saying he can’t get them. If I get them for him, he cries saying he doesn’t like those. He will not sleep—he wants water; then he wants a different pillow; then he wants a toy in bed—but not the toys I give him. He never ends up sleeping—he just cries and coughs all night. I’m hoping he gets better soon because this poor, sick baby is driving me nuts! : )
The doctor did say that Max wasn’t contagious, so on Monday we attempted going to our Play and Learn. The class is SO much better now! It isn’t crowded AT ALL now that they split the class. Today there were only six kids and four moms! It was Heaven! : ) Unfortunately, Max was still very unhappy and not feeling well. So we let Makenna have fun while I just held him (you know, it’s a really hard thing to be a mom of more than one kid. I wanted Makenna to get to go about her normal schedule and have fun. However, Max just wanted to be at home with me holding him. What do you do? It’s honestly something I haven’t figured out yet!).
Today was another Nutrition class. Our color today was blue (although we talked about white and brown fruits and vegetables as well). Makenna had fun dancing and singing with our movement songs. That girl loves to sing! Then we read our Reggie book and got started on our rotations.
Our first rotation was painting with blue puff paint. Makenna REALLY liked this! She told me she was making lots and lots of flowers.
Max attempted painting, but he only felt like doing a few minutes of it. Then he was back to being held by mommy!
I think he looks TOTALLY out of it in this picture!
For our next activity, the kids cut out pictures of white, brown, and blue fruits and vegetables and created a college on the letter B. I was more focused on Max today, but Makenna did a great job completely by herself!
Max cut out a few pictures and glued two of them on, and then he was done.

Next we sorted blue items. There were blue blocks, animals, marbles, etc. Makenna sorted them and then did some patterns with them for a while. Then she just played. : )
She was so cute! Do you see the little blocks over by her knee? Well she arranged them so they could be like a slide. Then she had all of the little animals take turns going down the slide. She played with that “slide” for the longest!
Max did play for a minute. He gathered up all of the little rocks and played with them. Such a little boy to want to play with the rocks!
Lining up the rocks to count them:
After rotations, it was snack time! Today they had cauliflower (Makenna wouldn’t eat it), blue potatoes (I had never seen these before! They taste just like regular potatoes—but they are blue! Makenna wouldn’t eat those either. Sorry Idaho-boy Austin, but your kids just do not like potatoes!), blueberries (she wouldn’t eat the blueberries either!), a pear, blue chips (made from blue corn!), and blueberry muffins. By this point, Max was crying and whining and wouldn’t let me put him down—so I only have a picture of Makenna.
Max ended up eating his muffin, blueberries, and a chip. But then he started coughing and couldn’t stop! So Max and I spent the rest of the time outside in the hallway. Through the door, I could hear that the kids did some rolls on the mats (in our book today, Reggie had so much energy from eating fruits and vegetables, he could do somersaults) and sang their goodbye song. I’m not sure if they read another book today or not. Honestly, by now I was just ready to get Max home! Obviously, it was a bad idea to take him out today!
It was still early in the morning (because our class starts at 9 now, we got done at 10:30), so after we got home I got outside and did a little yard work. It was pretty hard because Max was sick and whiney, but honestly they were going to kick us out of our neighborhood if I didn’t get it done! So I raked and swept and mowed. I only did the front yard (and there are still TONS of leaves out there!), but it filled SIX lawn bags of leaves and grass clippings! We have WAY more trees outside in the backyard; I’m not looking forward to cleaning up that mess!
Towards the end of my cleaning, the mail man showed up—we got a package from Grandma Becky! So we headed inside and the kids opened everything up. There were so many fun, Halloween things for them to play with! They are loving it all—thanks Grandma Becky!
Next we had lunch and nap time (and Max finally ate food! I think it was bribing him with a treat that Grandma sent that did it!). Well, I call it a nap time but no one actually slept. Max cried the whole entire time—a hour and a half! Of course, that meant that Makenna couldn’t sleep either… so even after nap time was over, I still had two cranky kids on my hands! But it was time to take Max to the doctor for his follow-up appointment, so there wasn’t much I could do about it!
After the doctor’s appointment, we came home and got into the kitchen! Grandma Becky sent all of the supplies to make a fun Halloween treat, so I put the kids to work baking!
All day today I have had to fight Max in order to get him to take his hood off!
“Right here, Max!”
After the cupcakes were in the oven, the kids watched Tangled while I did my chores. Then it was time for dinner, clean-up, then FHE.
During FHE, we always let the kids take turns picking out the songs they want to sing. I was so surprised by the song choices tonight! Instead of “Popcorn Popping” or “If You’re Happy and You Know It” or the usual songs like that, tonight Max chose “I Belong to the Church” and Makenna chose “I Love to See the Temple.” I think their song choices are getting pretty grown up! : )
Our lesson tonight was on the Plan of Salvation. Afterwards, the kids drew pictures of what they think Heaven is like.
Here is Max’s picture. When I asked him what it was, he said, “A bridge in heaven!” Not sure what that means exactly, but there you go!
Makenna’s picture melted my heart! She drew her family with Jesus and Heavenly Father. Then she drew little flowers around us all. So cute!
After FHE was the point the kids had been waiting for—they finally got to eat their Halloween cupcakes!
I loved it—after FHE, the kids were brushing their teeth. Makenna got a really thoughtful look on her face, and then said, “Mom, I’m sorry I was naughty today. I will be good so I can live in the Celestial Kingdom with Heavenly Father and Jesus.” Of course, she instantly hit Max or something like that afterwards, but it was still an awesome moment!
Next was the point MOM had been waiting for—scriptures, stories, and bedtime! (I’m sorry, people, but I am WORN OUT from dealing with whiney, sick Max all day!!!) Here’s hoping tomorrow Max feels better—because I don’t think I can take more days of him feeling sick!
On Tuesday, we took Makenna to school at the Bentley’s house. AJ, Max’s little buddy, came back home to play with us while his mom taught school. I have to admit, Max was a little pill. We read a story, and Max kept covering the pages so AJ couldn’t see them. They played in his room, and Max sat on his bed and crossed his little arms and said, “No play with AJ! My going to just go to bed!” So, obviously, he still isn’t feeling his best!
We picked Makenna up from school and she was also pretty whiney. All she told me was they made a scarecrow at school today. I think both kids went to sleep too late last night (Max cried until after 10 pm, so of course Makenna was still awake) and both kids woke up too early this morning! So the second lunch was over, I put those kiddos to bed!
During naptime, I worked on my lesson for Primary. I was still coloring, so after the kids woke up they colored for a while with me and we listened to some Broadway soundtracks on Pandora. Love Pandora!
On Tuesday night, our friends the Jensen’s came over for dinner and play time. As always, it was nice to have another adult in the house and to let the kids have fun with their friends!
Afterwards, it was time for showers, scriptures, stories, and bed time. The kids went to bed MUCH better tonight—even though it still took Max about an hour to stop crying and go to sleep.
On Wednesday I had a class at the Early Learning Community, so Makenna and Max had fun playing at the childcare. Today was another great class—this time on Activity Times. I really need to start having better Activity Times with the kiddos! Hopefully I will put what I learned today in practice!
After we got home, it was lunch and nap time. Since it is such a cold, rainy day, after naps we spent quite a long time reading books. I also tried out underwear on Max. Max has REFUSED to wear underwear for months now. He says, “My no where underwear! My wear diapers! My a baby!” Today, however, I put them on him anyway. : ) He wore them for about 3 or 4 hours. He had two accidents and NEVER went in the potty, but it’s a start right?
The rest of the day was spent playing in the basement while I did the kids’ laundry. A pretty chill day!
